Mirthala Salinas

Mirthala Salinas is an anchor and reporter for U.S. Spanish language television channel KVEA-TV (also known as Telemundo 52) in Los Angeles.

 Biography

Salinas was born on October 27, 1970. She was born and raised in the state of Sonora in northern Mexico. She attended Arizona State University. Before arrival in Los Angeles, Salinas was a reporter for Univision 33 in Phoenix, Arizona. [1]

According to Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, they are in a romantic relationship. The story was broken on July 3, 2007 by the Los Angeles Daily News. [2]

In early June, Villaraigosa separated from his wife of 20 years, Corina, who filed for divorce a couple of days later. According to the Los Angeles Times, the relationship with Mirthala Salinas goes back more than 18 months - to the beginning of Villaraigosa's term in office. [3] Coincidentally, she was the anchor who read the report of Villaraigosa's separation from his wife on the Telemundo 52 news broadcast.

As of July 5, she was placed on paid leave by her employer while it conducts an internal investigation into whether she breached journalistic ethics. In late July 2007, some noted that Salinas' parent employer, NBC Universal, which is conducting the review of her reporting on the mayor in light of the news of the affair, is also currently campaigning with the city of Los Angeles for approval of a $3 billion, 20-year development plan for which they will need Villaraigosa's assistance. Some have called this a conflict of interest, but Villaraigosa said that he saw nothing wrong with the situation.[4]

Salinas has also had romantic relationships with other Los Angeles politicians, including Former City Council President and current state Senator Alex Padilla in addition to Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuņez (D-Los Angeles),[5] [6]
