AIM Mail
AIM Mail is a web-based email (webmail) service provided by AOL. Its main
competitors are Gmail, MSN Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail. The "AIM" in the name
stands for AOL Instant Messenger, AOL's instant messaging program.
History
Both AOL Mail and AIM Mail are free and there is also an option for custom
domains that you can create (also free).
AOL purchased MailBlocks on August 4, 2004, to add an application-like web
interface to its AOL Mail service. [1] This interface is also showcased in
AIM Mail.
Features
AIM Mail has the following features available at no cost:
* Unlimited storage
* 16 MB attachments
* Spam protection
* Virus protection
* Spell checking
* A new AIM Panel (beta in July 2007) with a full Buddy List and indicators
to show presence of online buddies.
* An AOL-exclusive email unsend capability (provided the message is sent to
another AOL or AIM mailbox).
Advertising is displayed while working with the e-mail account. Users can
also read and send mail using IMAP and POP3 capable email programs, such as
Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, and Apple Mail.
